Dear Brothers and Sisters:
In
the train wreck in California recently, among the many casualties, a man was
injured who, evidently, was not sure he would live. Waiting inside a mangled
passenger car for help to arrive, it must have seemed an eternity to him. As he
lay there, the thoughts of the ones whom he most deeply loved enveloped his
mind. Not knowing if he would have the chance to see them again before he
passed away, using his own life’s blood
dripping from his veins, he wrote a message to his wife and children on the
wreckage around him: “I ♥ my kids. I ♥ Leslie.” We rejoice to say, the
injured man lived to hug his family again!
Jesus Christ
hung on a cruel wooden cross – an instrument of execution from which He would
not come down alive. As He hung there, His life’s blood dripped slowly down the
beams and onto the rocks and soil below. Though He had the power to free
Himself, He did not do it! Instead, He thought of you and me…and He wrote
our names on that old Cross in His own blood. 
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in Him is acquitted….” John 3:16-17 (The Message)
May we ever be mindful of the awful price Jesus Christ paid to take upon Himself the punishment that we justly deserve for OUR sins! Oh, the brilliant wonder, the gleaming glory, the immense love He showed us when He cried from the Cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!” And, He dealt our accuser, Satan, the masterful stroke of eternal defeat as He declared with His final breath, “It is finished!”
THIS IS THE MESSAGE WE SHARE IN NURSING HOMES! Many to whom we minister are enduring hardship and suffering beyond anything they ever dreamed they would face. And the relentless battle the Christian nursing home residents fight to keep their hearts focused on Christ takes a toll. For these brothers and sisters in the Lord, we have the honor and the great responsibility of encouraging them in their faith in Him! We are also privileged to share this message with many who have not really heard it before.
They all need Christian love, understanding, and support. They all need to hear the “old, old story,” over and over. We show them the love of Christ by being there! Sixty percent of nursing home residents NEVER have a visitor come to see them!
This is why we spend the time and money to produce and send out our “Handbook for Nursing Home Ministry,” “Our Hymn Book,” and our CD to aid volunteers ministering to care facility residents. This is why we maintain our computer lending program for any resident who wants a computer. This is why we facilitate our Care Package Program. This is why we go to several nursing homes in Hampton Roads to hold services for the residents. All without charge, because the folks we minister to cannot support us.
We print the authors of poetry that lifts up Jesus Christ--poets who would probably never find their work in the public eye any other way. We promote inductive Bible study and prayer--so that each of us can better grasp and experience in an ever deeper way the grace and love of Jesus Christ.
These are the reasons why we go to the trouble of maintaining this website!
And these are the reasons why we humbly ask that you remember us in your regular charitable giving. The Lord provides funding for the work of Christian Concourse through individuals who cannot give great amounts but are willing to share what they are able. Please, give a hand to keep this ministry going. A little goes a long way! We need your help! And we sincerely thank you for your kind consideration.
