Our Purpose:

Christian Concourse exists as a prayerful effort to share the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to respond to the need for improved, meaningful communications among believers throughout the greater Christian community.

We seek to equip and empower believers to encourage, exhort and build each other up in their faith in Jesus Christ - across the spectrum of theological orbits of Christianity - reflecting the teachings of Scripture on humility, peace, love and the unity of the Body of Christ.

Therefore, our work is dedicated to God, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the development of functional tools with which HE may enhance our relations in Christian Accord and our service within HIS interdenominational Church.

Our Activities:

As a practical expression of the vision for Christian Concourse, we enable believers to minister in three ways:

Nursing Home Ministry: Conducting "church" services in care facilities and encouraging others to share the blessing of volunteering. Distributing "A Handbook for Nursing Home Ministry" - a major collection of information, ideas, guidelines, tools, poems, and references; "Our Hymn Book" - 36 all-time favorites in large print with 2 accompaniment CDs.

CHRISTIAN PUBLICATIONS: The Journal For Jesus' Sheep - original Christian poetry. Share with others your poems!

SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDY AND PRAYER: Presenting the true-inductive, true-seminar style small-group Bible study called Chapter & Verse. And, promoting small-group meetings for prayer and fellowship among ministers interdenominationally.

If you would like more information on any of our activities, please call us at: (757) 714-3133 or leave us a message in our guestbook.

The Gospel

The Good News of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ was sent from God the Father to deliver us from the bondage of our sin. Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father. He is fully God and fully man. He is present in the world today in the person of the Holy Spirit. He lived on Earth to show us who God is, and how much His Father loves us by paying the price of death that we deserve for our sinful nature. Folks like you and I walked and talked with Him, and touched Him. Some hated Him for who He was, but Jesus lived a perfect life in the sight of His Heavenly Father. At the appointed time, all around Him forsook Him. His religious enemies arrested Him. They blindly convicted Him of lies and turned Him over to Roman soldiers to be tortured to death, nailed to a cross. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Father brought Jesus back to life on the 3rd day, as He promised. He was seen by hundreds before He ascended up to Heaven. All can receive Jesus in their heart thru the power of the Holy Spirit. We must humble ourselves before Him, admit our sinfulness, repent of our sins, and believe on Him with everything in us. As His obedient children following Him in His Written Word, taught and assured by the Holy Spirit within us, we can live changed lives and confidently embrace His promise of eternal life. He died for you – live for Him!

Count Your Blessings

Johnson Oatman, Jr.

 Play this song

1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go bye.

Chorus:

Count your blessings,
Name them one by one,
Count your blessings,
See what God has done;
Count your blessings,
Name them one by one;
Count your many blessings,
See what God has done.

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Love Lifted Me

James Rowe

 Play this song

1. I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore; Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters, lifted me, now safe am I.

2. All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll cling,
In His blessed presence live, ever His praises sing.
Love so mighty and so true merits my soul’s best songs,
Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs.

Chorus:

Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me!
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me!

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.    Romans 5:5

O How I Love Jesus

Frederick Whitfield

 Play this song

1. There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing it’s worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest name on earth.

2. It tells me what my Father hath
In store for every day,
And though I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.

3. It tells of One Whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part
That none can bear below.

Chorus:

O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me.

We love him, because he first loved us.  1 John 4:19
...God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

God Leads Us Along

George A. Young

 Play this song

1. In shady green pastures,
So rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along,
Where the water’s cool flow
Bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.

2. Sometimes on the mount
Where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley,
In darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.

Chorus:

Some thru the waters, some thru the flood,
Some thru the fire, but all thru the blood!
Some thru great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.

...He calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.   John 10:3

When The Roll Is Called

James M. Black

 Play this song

1. When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound,
And time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather
Over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

2. Let us labor for the Master from
The dawn ’til setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
Then when all of life is over and
Our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Chorus:

When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven ...with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [we who remain] shall be caught up together with them...,and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.  1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Open Mine Eyes

Clara H. Fiske Scott

 Play this song

1. Open mine eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

2. Open mine ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.

3. Open my mouth, and let me bear,
Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.

Chorus:

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.  Psalms 119:18

His Eye Is On the Sparrow

Civilla D. Martin

 Play this song

1.Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?
My constant Friend is He;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me,
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

2. "Let not your heart be troubled,"
His tender words I hear;
And resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubt and fears.
Though by the path He leadeth,
But one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me,
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Chorus:

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free!
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.   Matthew 10:29,31

The Old Rugged Cross

George Bennard

 Play this song

1. On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff’ring and shame;
And I love that old cross,
Where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

2. To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me someday
To my home far away
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

Chorus:

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
’Til my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it someday for a crown.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.  Philippians 2:8

Near the Cross

Fanny Crosby

 Play this song

1. Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain.
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary’s mountain.

2. Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
With its shadow o’er me.

Chorus:

In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
’Til my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life.... And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.  Revelation 22:1-4

Were You There?

African-American spiritual

 Play this song

1. Were you there
When they crucified my Lord?
Were you there
When they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
To tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there
When they crucified my Lord?

2. Were you there
When they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there
When they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
To tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there
When they nailed Him to the tree?

3. Were you there
When they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there
When they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me
To tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there
When they laid Him in the tomb?

...God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself,... 2 Corinthians 5:19

The Everlasting Arms

Elisha A. Hoffman

 Play this song

1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

2. Oh, how sweet to walk, in this pilgrimway,
Leaning on the everlasting arms,
Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

3. What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Chorus:

Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

The eternal God is your Refuge, and under-neath are the everlasting arms.  Deuteronomy 33:27

He Leadeth Me

Joseph H. Gilmore

 Play this song

1. He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
What e’er I do, where e’er I be,
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

2. And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy Grace the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Still God through Jordan leadeth me.

Chorus:

He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.  Psalm 23

In The Garden

C. Austin Mills

 Play this song

1. I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the Voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

2. He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet, the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

Chorus:

And He walks with me and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

Jesus saith unto her, "Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?" She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, "Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus saith unto her, "Mary." She turned herself, and saith unto him, "Rabboni"; which is to say, Master.  John 20:15-16

I Must Tell Jesus

Elisha A. Hoffman. There was a woman to whom God had permitted many visitations of sorrow and affliction. Coming to her home one day, I found her much discouraged. She unburdened her heart, concluding with the question, "Brother Hoffman, what shall I do?" I quoted from the word, then added, "You cannot do better than to take all of your sorrows to Jesus. You must tell Jesus."

For a moment she seemed lost in meditation. Then her eyes lighted as she exclaimed, "Yes, I must tell Jesus." As I left her home I had a vision of that joy-illuminated face……and I heard all along my pathway the echo, "I must tell Jesus. I must tell Jesus."

Hoffman wrote these words after reaching home.

 Play this song

1. I must tell Jesus all of my trials,
I cannot bear these burdens alone;
In my distress He kindly will help me,
He ever loves and cares for His own.

2. I must tell Jesus all of my troubles;
He is a kind, compassionate friend;
If I but ask Him, He will deliver,
Make of my troubles quickly an end.

Chorus:

I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone;
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
Jesus will help me, Jesus alone.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  1 Peter 5:7

Amazing Grace

John Newton

 Play this song

1. Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

2. ’Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear,
And Grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

3. Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

4. When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.

...one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. John 9:25

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9

Just A Closer Walk With Thee

Author Unknown

 Play this song

1. I am weak, but Thou art strong,
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

2. Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

3. When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Chorus:

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.  2 Corinthians 13:4

Blessed Be The Name

William H. Clark

 Play this song

1. All praise to Him Who reigns above
In majesty supreme,
Who gave His Son for man to die,
That He might man redeem!

2. His name above all names shall stand,
Exalted more and more,
At God the Father’s own right hand,
Where angel hosts adore.

3. His Name shall be the Counselor,
The mighty Prince of Peace,
Of all earth’s kingdoms Conqueror,
Whose reign shall never cease.

Chorus:

Blessed be the name! Blessed be the name!
Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Blessed be the name! Blessed be the name!
Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the Name of the Lord!  Job 1:21

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

Higher Ground

Johnson Oatman, Jr.

 Play this song

1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2. My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3. I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

4. I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

Chorus

Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on heaven’s table land,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD. Micah 4:2

Rock of Ages

Augustus M. Toplady

 Play this song

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Could my tears forever flow,
Could my zeal no languor know,
These for sin could not atone,
Thou must save, and Thou alone:
In my hand no price I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling.

3. While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyes shall close in death,
When I rise to worlds unknown,
And behold Thee on Thy throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by.  Exodus 33:22

Showers of Blessing

Daniel W. Whittle

 Play this song

1. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

2. There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come, and now honor Thy Word.

3. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now, as on Jesus we call.

Chorus:

Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drops ’round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.  Ezekiel 34:26

Standing On the Promises

R. Kelso Carter

 Play this song

1. Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus:

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for He is faithful that promised. Hebrews 10:23

Whispering Hope

Septimus Winner

 Play this song

1. Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion
Whispers her comforting word:
Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done;
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone!

2. If in the dusk of the twilight,
Dim be the region afar,
Will not the deepening darkness
Brighten the glimmering star?
Then when the night is upon us,
Why should the heart sink away?
Then the dark midnight is over,
Watch for the breaking of day.

Chorus:

Whispering hope, O how welcome Thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

...hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,....  Heb 6:19

When We All Get to Heaven

Eliza E. Hewitt

 Play this song

1. Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His Grace;
In the mansions bright and blessed,
He’ll prepare for us a place.

2. Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.

Chorus:

When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  Revelation 21:3-4

Revive Us Again

William P. Mackay

 Play this song

1. We praise Thee, O God,
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus who died
And is now gone above.

2. We praise Thee, O God!
For Thy Spirit of light,
Who hath shown us our Savior,
And scattered our night.

3. Revive us again,
Fill each heart with thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.

Chorus:

Hallelujah, Thine the glory!
Hallelujah, Amen!
Hallelujah, Thine the glory!
Revive us again.

Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?  Psalm 85:6

What a Friend

Joseph Scriven

 Play this song

1. What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

2. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our Refuge -
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do Thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto youJohn 15:13-15

Have Thine Own Way, Lord

Adelaide A. Pollard was convinced the Lord wanted her in Africa as a missionary. She tried to raise funds to go, but was unsuccessful. It was in this uncertain state of mind that she attended a prayer meeting. There, she heard an elderly woman pray, "It’s all right, Lord. It doesn’t matter what You bring into our lives, just have Your own way with us." At home that night, much encouraged, she wrote this hymn.

 Play this song

1. Have Thine own way, Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay!
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

2. Have Thine own way, Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence, humbly I bow.

3. Have Thine own way, Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit ’till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.  Isaiah 64:8

Just As I Am

Charlotte Elliott

 Play this song

1. Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

2. Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

3. Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

4. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

5. Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.  John 1:29

To God Be the Glory

Fanny Crosby

 Play this song

1. To God be the glory,
Great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

2. Great things He hath taught us,
Great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus, the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

Chorus:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father
Through Jesus, the Son,
And give Him the glory,
Great things He hath done!

I will sing praise to the LORD.  Judges 5:3

Lily of the Valley

Charles W. Fry

 Play this song

1. I’ve found a friend in Jesus, He’s ev’rything to me,
He’s the Fairest of Ten Thousand to my soul.
The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He’s my comfort,
In trouble He’s my stay,
He tells me ev’ry care on Him to roll.

2. He all my griefs has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation, He’s my strong and mighty tower.
I’ve all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart, and now He keeps me by His pow’r.
Though all the world forsake me,
And Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.

Chorus:

He’s the Lily of the Valley,
The Bright and Morning Star,
He’s the Fairest of Ten Thousand to my soul.

I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleysSong of Solomon 2:1

At the Cross

Isaac Watts

 Play this song

1. Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?

2. Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

3. Well might the sun in darkness hide
And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker died,
For man the creature’s sin.

Chorus:

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: where they crucified him.  John 19:17-18

My Jesus, I Love Thee

William R. Featherston, who was only 16 years old at the time.

 Play this song

1. My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

2. I love Thee because Thou has first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree.
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

3. In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow.
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  Galatians 2:20

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Charles Wesley

 Play this song

1. Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild;
God and sinners reconciled."
Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic hosts proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethelem."
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King."

2. Come, Desire of nations, come!
Fix in us Thy humble home:
Rise, the woman’s conqu’ring seed,
Bruise in us the serpent’s head;
Adam’s likeness now efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King."

But we all,...are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 3:18

Joy to the World

Issac Watts

 Play this song

1. Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heav’n and nature sing,
And heav’n and nature sing,
And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing.

2. Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

3. He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, and wonders of His love.

And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."   Luke 2:10

Silent Night

Joseph Mohr

 Play this song

1. Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
’Round yon virgin mother and Child!
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

2. Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heav’nly hosts sing Alleluia;
Christ, the Savior, is born,
Christ, the Savior, is born.

3. Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  Luke 2:11-12

O Little Town of Bethlehem

Phillips Brooks

 Play this song

1. O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie;
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by:
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.

2. How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still,
The dear Christ enters in.

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.   Micah 5:2

O Come, All Ye Faithful

Frederick Oakeley

 Play this song

1. O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye
To Bethlehem;
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of angels.

2. Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
Jesus, to Thee
Be all glory giv’n;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing.

Chorus

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ, the Lord.

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 1 Chronicles 16:29

Holy Scripture

Taken from the King James Version

John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Ephesians 2:4-10  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Micah 6:8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Proverbs 3: 5-6  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalms 19: 14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

John 15: 7-12  If ye abide in me [Jesus], and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Philippians 4: 6-8  Be [anxious] for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
